An experienced IT professional is needed to provide leadership and expertise as part of the Network Engineering team administering and supporting the MN Department of Human Services (DHS) enterprise-wide converged network. The Senior Network Engineer serves as the lead engineer operating in a 24/7 environment providing solutions for network management, remote access solutions, Virtual Private Networks and unified communications. This person will be involved in designing, installing, configuring, upgrading, testing, troubleshooting, and supporting all aspects of the network infrastructure. The Senior Network Engineer will also implement and support ASA/firewalls, routing, switching and wireless networks, along with analyzing performance data and developing action plans to maintain compliance with DHS security practices.

Job Description:
- Provide network designs and innovative technical solutions based on process and technical requirements
- Provide leadership and mentoring to other engineers and technicians
- Manage relations with vendors associated with the agency's high availability technical infrastructure
- Develop complex network designs and solutions with a wide range of WAN/LAN network topologies based on MPLS, EMIS, 3G, DSL, Ethernet, VoIP, and Wireless
- Identify, evaluate, select, and integrate support tools
- Take a lead role in managing major network initiatives, high-level network designs, and deployments as well as coordinating technical issues with clients, vendors, and internal teams
- Build and maintain IT business partnerships and relationships
- Provide network management using tools such as SNMP, SolarWinds, WebSense, Cisco
Secure ACS, WCS, etc.
Qualifications:
This position requires an experienced, advanced level IT professional with high-level technical expertise including:
- Superior knowledge and demonstrated technical proficiency in VLAN trucking, switch and router and configuration/setup
- Cisco Firewall and VPN configuration and setup with experience in managing medium to large environments
- Solid working knowledge of the Windows Operating Systems
- Solid understanding of standard client/server, networking and internet fundamentals
- Knowledge of Network Design and Optimization
- Experience in Circuit Provisioning
- In-depth knowledge of IP routing and routing protocols
- Strong background with LAN and WAN protocols
- Extensive experience with network management platforms and protocols such as SNMP, XYMON, Solar Winds, etc.
In addition, candidates must demonstrate:
- Ability to work closely with systems engineering, operations and developers providing network support.
- Ability to maintain documentation of network topology, infrastructure and device configuration of technology devices within the DHS infrastructure.
- Ability to set standards for and incorporate and/or design new technical solutions in response to agency/Office of Enterprise Technology changes and technology trends.
- Ability to consult and represent the technical infrastructure in priority setting and disaster recovery planning, testing, response and recovery (following a disaster event).
Preferred Qualifications:
5 years of storage engineering and design experience, CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) or equivalent experience, and a strong understanding of major enterprise operating systems.
