Beta Byte: Team Digest

Team DigestBeta Byte is a new series for the early stage tech found somewhere between idea and traction. Equally exciting as it is raw.  Are you in this phase?

What is the name of the company and/or product?

Company is Spice Apps. Product is Team Digest.

Who is on the team?

Craig Condon & Tim Erickson

What is the customer value proposition? What business problem is being solved?

Email is an important avenue for info sharing but it is is rife with inconvenience and inefficiencies.  Inbox overload, untimely receipt, long discussion threads, etc.The bottom-line is that corporations and team are sharing insights and information less efficiently than they should and business outcomes eventually suffer as a result.

What is the target “launch” date?

We have a few dozen enterprise teams on board for our Alpha, and we’re letting more in this friday. Public launch sometime in the months to come.

What is the specific technology or combination of technologies, framework, languages, etc. that makes this thing run? Is there any IP?

So much fun stuff behind the scenes! We’ve built an incredibly flexible platform on Node.JS and MongoDB. We have custom libraries that parse websites for content, parse emails for discussions, and much more technology that you don’t really see.

What is your greatest strength?

We understand the need for a low barrier to entry. We don’t force our users to learn a new social network or system, just use what you already understand: email and web browsing. We’ll handle the hard stuff.

What is your biggest weakness?

Our social reach. We’re relying on word of mouth marketing to let people know about Team Digest. We don’t have marketing budget.

Is there a revenue model?  How big is the market?

Freemium model.  At scale can pay for a corporate license, on a per-list basis, or on a number-of-emails-sent basis. The market is any team or group of people that’s tried to have conversations through email and been frustrated with the experience.  3.146 billion email accounts worldwide.

What is one resource you could use that would take this to the next level?

Well, let’s be frank.. the greatest resource is money isn’t it? We’re an incredibly efficient operation with very low overhead, so we’re interested in small angel investments to pay for good people.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We’d love to chat with anyone! Email us at if you’re at all curious about anything.
