BigDataMN is back

Minnesota’s Field Guide to Analytics in the World of Big Data or just BigDataMN — either way — the largest data oriented event to ever hit Minnesota is coming back on January 21st, 2013.

“It’s the intersection of data, math, tech and business,” says event co chair Dan Atkins who works with Sean Larson and a cohort of peers from MinneAnalytics/TCASUG.

Last year was such a hit, unexpectedly so really.  The interest is there, the subject is timely and Minnesota has both great assets and future potential in the world of data. Orientation is everything when you’re wandering the wilderness as we all really are still.”

Sponsored in part by the U of M’s new new data science lab SOBACO, the full day multitrack event is framed up around: value, definition, strategy, privacy and talent.  Whether retail, healthcare, civic, etc. — the application emphasis varies.  A current speaker list includes:

  • Todd Graham,  Metropolitan Council
  • Edward Chenard,  Best Buy
  • Donnie Berkholz, Ph.D., RedMonk
  • Dan McCreary, NoSQL Evangelist
  • Dennis Still, OptiMine Software, Inc.
  • Jamie Ostheimer, PhD., Data Scientist
  • Jaideep Srivastava, PhD., University of Minnesota CSE

Nearly 100 individuals from a broad range of titles and backgrounds have already registered for what the group predicts will exceed last years 500 attendees.  Sponsors and speakers calls are out, plus there’s word of a hackathon in the works.
