Google taps U of M for 3-D-sensing smartphone

“Google Inc. picked the University of the Minnesota as an academic partner for its recently revealed Project Tango, a smartphone that captures 3-D images.

The school’s Multiple Autonomous Robotic Systems laboratory, or MARS, is one of more than a dozen organizations that teamed up with Google’s Advanced Technology And Projects Group to build the device, which is still in a prototype stage.”
