Startup Weekend EDU is coming to the Twin Cities this May

Startup Weekend EDU is coming to the Twin Cities’ Carlson School of Management on May 2 – 4.

“Startup Weekend EDU brings together a diverse group of people – educators, technologists, designers, and business professionals – passionate about making a positive impact on education. In 54 hours, participants share ideas, form teams, design products and launch education startups.”

The event is organizationally driven by Steve Wellvang, a lawyer with Oppenheimer Wolff and Donnelly. After experiencing his first Startup Weekend EDU event in New York, he simply felt compelled to do it here in Minnesota.

“The connection of ‘education stakeholders’, developers and entrepreneurs working together is a key part of a better future for Minnesota’s education sector.”

Wellvang also co-founded the local Educelerate Twin Cities with the goal of promoting educational entrepreneurship in the Twin Cities on a monthly basis.

“I’m deeply passionate about the ways edutech can impact our future,” he says. “This space is so exhilarating and exciting.” Early bird registration is open now through April 9.

I attended the last 2 Educelerate events and they were awesome — so many interesting and dynamic people in the twin cities. I imagine Startup Weekend Edu will be similarly engaging.

Having organized Chicago StartupWeekend and helped out with other StartupWeekend EDU events in LA and Phoenix this year, I am particularly excited for what we can achieve in the Twin CIties. The Twin Cities actually has the second largest collection of large, scaled education technology companies in the entire US, but hopefully through this event and our Educelerate Meetup, we can help support the next generation of start-ups!
