Beta Byte: Donormite

logo-donormiteBeta Byte is a series underwritten by Bust Out Solutions for that early stage tech found somewhere between idea and traction.

What is the name of the company and/or product?

Donormite |

What problem does this solve and what was the “aha” moment?

Donormite is a fundraising service that allows anyone to buy specific items for nonprofits. Imagine being able to buy a space heater for a local women’s shelter this past winter (true story.) By making donations specific, people see exactly how their investment is impacting an organization, encouraging more people to give. We are also in the process of launching our newest feature – Campaigns – allowing anyone to fundraise for their favorite nonprofit’s specific needs. Donormite is committed to creating innovative solutions that encourage and inspire generosity. We’re Transforming the Way People Give, One Gift at a Time!

What is the full launch/release date planned?

Our site is live and enables people to purchase the specific needs of local Minnesota Nonprofits.
We are currently beta testing our Campaign feature, which will be available this fall.

Who is on the team?

Kyle Ronning, co-founder

Eric Darling, co-founder

What is the specific technology or combination of technologies is used? Is there any IP?

We use a variety of technologies such as, Python (Flask), Twitter Bootstrap, JavaScript, Heroku and AWS. We are starting to use more front end tools like Bower, Grunt and Angular JS as we build out our Campaign features.

What is the size/scope of your market and how will you scale?

According to the 2013 Giving USA study, overall giving in 2012 was just over $316 billion. Our focus is on people 16-35 years old who may feel like they don’t have the resources to make a difference. Imagine the perception of generosity after purchasing a Remote Control car for a child, whose father was in drug treatment this past Christmas.(True Story). Scale can come through people sharing your story – Donormite helps nonprofits share their story through their needs, which we feel is a story worth sharing.

What is your revenue model?

Our site is free to use, although we may eventually charge for premium features. We apply a fulfillment fee to every donation, consistent with many crowdfunding sites.

What is your greatest strength?

We are both bootstrappers that as a team, have a lot of complementary skills. We have both found that intersection of passion and skill that we believe will drive us to create something great!

What is your biggest weakness?

We are not very well connected in the nonprofit community, which makes it difficult to get organizations to buy into our newer concept.

What is one resource you could use that would take this to the next level?

Forming a strategic partnership with a well connected foundation or large nonprofit.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We are looking for individuals who would like to support their favorite Minnesota nonprofit through a campaign. We are also looking to connect with anyone who believes they could help us out. If that’s you, please let us know by contacting us here:
