Macalester College to host student demo day in August

Mac StartupsMac Startups, an initiative launched in May for students at Macalester College, is hosting its inaugural ‘demo day’ on August 7th in St. Paul.

Student organizer Petar Petrovic invites the tech community to join in for a networking lunch with the four teams presenting:

  • COBO is an online marketplace for college communities.
  • Yours & by You blurs the distinction between a ‘purchase of yours’ and a ‘creation by you’ in the leather handbag market.
  • postModern Mailing is a package processing web application that makes mail processing more efficient and more eco-friendly.
  • MacSitters is highly localized babysitting and tutoring platform for Macalester College students.

Mac Startups marks the College’s foray into the technology startup space with the goal of fostering entrepreneurship on campus. More than a dozen students participated in the first class and Petrovic anticipates that will only grow year over year.

“We’ve been fortunate to have a lot of interaction so far with the broader tech community here in Minnesota,” he says. “This is a chance to come together and share where our students are at, where they’re going, and how we can do more.”
