Minneapolis’ pending Open Data Portal — the desired outcome of an Open Data Policy passed earlier this year — is not happening as intended.
Per the official policy enacted on July 30th, the portal’s purpose is to serve as a virtual clearinghouse for publicly owned data currently controlled by the City. The corresponding timeline to launch was determined as within 120 days of passage.
As November 27th came and went, TECHdotMN emailed Minneapolis for the site link and location, only to learn that it is unavailable.
“The portal will go live on December 8th,” said City CIO Otto Doll upon inquiry of timing and location. “Our IT Department wanted to honor all departments requesting to be in the initial launch of the Open Data Portal.”
Updated 11/30/15 @ 10:15 CDT: Otto Doll suggests that holidays are not counted towards the 120 day timeline, of which there were five during this period.
