What problem does this solve and what was the “aha” moment?
Internships, particularly at small businesses and startups, provide some of the most impactful and best forms of education for students. Yet, access to these types of internships is not available to a majority students across the nation. Startup Finder connects students with internship opportunities at startups from across the country.
For students, we provide access to crucial career opportunities that serve as a launching pad for a high impact career. For startups, we provide a free and convenient way to access talented students from across the country who are eager to make an impact.
What is the full launch/release date planned?
Currently launched in Beta with full launch in Sept. 2015
Who is on the team?
What is the specific technology or combination of technologies is used? Is there any IP?
Our main goal is to move as fast as possible while building a product that everyone loves. We are using a host of open source technologies to quickly build our website and mobile app – including: Heroku, Ruby on Rails, Parse, and various Cocoa-pods library for our upcoming iOS app.
What is the size/scope of your market and how will you scale?
Our initial target market is University of Minnesota Twin Cities students and startups in the Twin Cities area. We will prove out model and key hypothesis in this market before scaling to other colleges and cities across the U.S. We hope that by creating a platform with high quality startups and students, we will be able to attract even more students looking startups, and vice versa; hopefully kicking off a viral loop.
What is your revenue model?
While we see multiple ways we could generate revenue, we are currently focused on providing the best possible experience for students.
What is your greatest strength?
Our greatest strength is that our founding team consists of both students and experienced advisors from technology companies. We know first hand how to cater to both students and startups, and how to build products and test ideas quickly.
What is your biggest weakness?
Our core value proposition consists of having high quality startups and students on our platform, which is extremely difficult to get started initially.
