What does JAMF Software do and why?
JAMF Software, and our flagship product the Casper Suite, helps organizations get the most out of the Apple platform. The Casper Suite gives IT admins the tools to deploy, update, configure, and secure their fleet of Apple devices.
With the rise of Apple devices used in businesses, schools, and other organizations, we saw the need for a great management tool that helps IT admins and users alike. Users get to work with the Apple products they prefer —IT administrators get their nights and weekends back.
When and how did JAMF Software start?
JAMF Software was established in 2002 with our headquarters in downtown Minneapolis and Support, R&D, and Development in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Our founding partner Zach Halmstad started developing the Casper Suite to fill a need for good Apple management tools while working at the IT Department at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, and we maintain a strong connection to that university to this day (many of our employees are UWEC grads). As we’ve grown, we’ve expanded with offices in New York, Cupertino, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Amsterdam.
What is something unique about JAMF Software?
As our customer base grew, we found a really dynamic and knowledgeable community of Apple IT admins who wanted to help each other with questions that arise during the daily practice of managing computers and mobile devices. What started as a simple mailing list evolved into JAMF Nation: the largest community of IT professionals focused on the Apple platform. We host an online discussion board (jamfnation.com) that’s open to all, and the annual three-day JAMF Nation User Conference (JNUC) to bring people together in real time. We do not charge for admission, and members of the JAMF Nation community—not our employees—present almost all of the sessions. Our goal is to provide a platform for brilliant minds to come together, share stories, geek-out, and help one another do great things.
Why do you sponsor TECHdotMN?
Much like JAMF Nation, TECHdotMN provides a forum for passionate technology enthusiasts to tell stories, collaborate, and increase awareness of the latest technologies. TECHdotMN supports activities that directly impact the economic health and wellness of technology in Minnesota, and this is something JAMF Software can stand behind wholeheartedly.
How could Minnesota’s tech industry improve from your perspective?
By continuing to grow. In the 13 years since we started JAMF Software, it’s been really exciting to see the growth of organizations like TECHdotMN, Minne*, CoCo, and others.
Right across the river from our headquarters is Code42, another great Minnesota tech success story. We know that Minnesota (and the Midwest region as a whole) has a tremendous number of smart, creative, driven people in the tech sector who are eager to build businesses and share their passion with the world. It’s our job to help support new businesses, help develop great talent, and continue to make Minnesota a top choice for growing a business.
