“Golden Valley, MN – Twin Cities IT consulting firm sdg (Solution Design Group) is excited to announce that as of January 1, 2016, they are 100 percent employee-owned. Known as an ESOP, or Employee Stock Ownership Plan, this program provides ongoing ownership of the organization to sdg employees through stock allocations each year.”
Keith Martin, sdg President and COO, has maintained that his goal as a leader has never been to create more followers, but rather to create more leaders. He asserts that, “the ESOP structure will help achieve that by further empowering each employee to take pride and ownership in the organization by putting forth their best effort every day, every project, and every task.”
Bill Francomb founded the company in 1989 and was later joined by co-owners Jeff Daniel (CEO) and Keith Martin. With Bill’s retirement at the end of 2015, the owners sought a succession plan to ensure the future of the organization. After careful evaluation of their options, it became clear that an ESOP most directly aligned with sdg’s core values and allowed the preservation of their unique culture. Bill will remain active on the ESOP Board of Trustees with Jeff and Keith.
Although the owners don’t foresee this changing how sdg conducts business with its customers and employees, it will provide another long-term retirement plan for all of their employees, in addition to their current 401(k) plan.
