Beta Byte is a series underwritten by Bust Out Solutions for that early stage tech found somewhere between idea and traction.
What is the name of the company and/or product?
What problem does this solve?
The way we consume our media is vastly evolving, and the video game industry is at the forefront of it all. You no longer have to be confined to a couch to experience a video game. You can now watch an entire playthrough while sitting on the train, or strap on a Virtual Reality headset to immerse yourself as never before. At Lifebar we allow you to capture all of these moments, from the first time you picked up a controller, to the last Let’s Play you watched. You can share these moments with others, or analyze them for yourself.
What is the full launch/release date planned?
We are debuting our beta release at 2D Con on June 3rd, and plan to have a full release by the end of the year.
Who is on the team?
What is the specific technology or combination of technologies is used? Is there any IP?
Lifebar is a single page web application built off of PHP, MySQL and jQuery. We leverage a framework called MaterializeCSS to help us build a web app that adheres to Google’s Material Design guidelines.
What is the size/scope of your market and how will you scale?
We are targeting gamers that are passionate about the industry as well as the games that they play. We want to celebrate your life with video games, and that includes those who develop, write, voice act, blog about them. With the boom of mobile games, video games are becoming more of a staple in our society so the size and scope of our audience is constantly expanding, but our current offerings are focused more towards the hobbyist opposed to the leisurely player.
What is your revenue model?
This is currently under evaluation but we are planning to allow for a premium subscription model that would further enhance certain functionality throughout the app.
What is your greatest strength?
We are building something that we are passionate about and love to use in our everyday lives. There is nothing else out there that touches on all of the aspects of Lifebar, so we strongly believe that as long as we continue to build unique functionality that personally excites us, it will benefit the countless other gamers like us out there.
What is your biggest weakness?
We have a ton of ideas that we think are great but our time is limited, so I would say focus & priority would be our biggest hurdle. There are so many places we would like to take Lifebar, so we are closely listening to the feedback of our members to help direct the future of the product.
What is one resource you could use that would take this to the next level?
As with any startup, time. The ideas are plentiful, the creativity is flowing, we just simply need enough time to execute on our vision and deliver what we know is possible.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
We are a small team of two that has worked in the software field for years, and finally decided that we wanted to put our efforts towards something we were both passionate about. We are excited to move forward with this new chapter in our lives and believe that there are great opportunities ahead to fully appreciate the maturing video game industry and all it has to offer. We have only scratched the surface.
