It sounds like fodder for late-night infomercials.  But research on these devices is being conducted by scientists in a Shoreview company [Aster Labs] who typically work on aerospace projects.”

    If you are going to count federal research grants (like ASTER) then you should check out Federal Reporter. Allows you to search grants from all agencies. Minnesota gets a couple billion a year. Most goes to Mayo and the UofM but there are still 10’s of millions to private business.
