Instead of a shortage of ideas and content for my column, the challenge has been is paring and prioritizing. That which is time sensitive is bound to surface first, so here are two bits of info that you should be aware of:
Do you know any non profits that are using technology in ways which are unique or cutting edge? How about organizations that are leveraging social communication tools to effectively spread their message, achieve measurable results, or solve problems for supporters and clients? If so, why not nominate them for the 2010 Dot.Org Awards?
I am really looking forward to contributing to TECHdotMN as the Social Correspondent. At first, I was surprised to be approached by the individuals behind this new and exciting venture, namely: Jeff Pesek, Mike Bollinger, Peter Fleck, Zach Robins and Paul Godfread. Yet, considering the rapidly increasing application of tech/IT as a means to solve societal challenges, it makes perfect sense. Interestingly, Minneapolis-St.Paul hold the number one spot for “rate of volunteerism” amongst all major large US cities; Minnesota, on the whole, is ranked #3 on the list. We are a hotbed of Social Enterprise, Non-Profits, and civic engagement.
Thank you to our sponsors
