About This Event:

Under the global pandemic, the world has shifted to working from home overnight, rendering the population reliant on digital platforms for many if not all of life’s basic functions. However, this reality is nothing new for the 61 million North Americans who self-identify as having a disability and had this experience since the Internet’s inception. It’s these circumstances that have amplified the need for increased accessibility to help people connect with friends and family, colleagues, businesses, and each other.

This panel brings together LGBTQ2S+ accessibility practitioners who have had hands-on experience in implementing and advocating for accessibility at their organizations. Whether it be building accessible products, designs, content, our speakers will share their stories of advocating for accessibility in the workplace, how they got to where they are today, and what audience members can do to further the cause at their places of work

Takeaways:

– What digital accessibility means and why it matters

– What a career in accessibility looks like at a range of global companies

– How to advocate for improved accessibility in the workplace

– Learning from experts with hands-on accessibility experience

About Our Partners:

[Venture Out]

Venture Out is Canada’s first and largest tech & social impact nonprofit organization connecting LGBTQA2S+ people in tech to career opportunities, mentors, and each other. At Venture Out, we believe that everybody has the right to a dignified life. At a time in history where new technologies seem to perpetuate—not solve for—existing inequities, we believe a different path is possible.

We strive to be a platform that shines a light on struggle and solidarity across diverse places, scenes and sentiments. We do so by bringing together critical thinkers, dissidents, and experiences of everyday life, all with the hope of encouraging action towards a better future.

At the heart of what we do lies the central question: how do we come together to build a more equitable future for all? Join us for our fourth annual conference as we tackle this topic. We’ll see you there.
