Position: Digital Innovation Platform Owner

Summary of Role:

  • 1. The Digital Platform Owner is a pivotal role in delivering innovative digital solutions and business models that balance the needs of customers, distribution partners and targeted business outcomes
  • 2. Reporting to the Director of Digital Innovation, you are responsible for aligning the platform strategy and roadmap to the vision for the business
  • 3. You will ensure the roadmap prioritization enables rapid testing and iteration against business and learning objectives by phase of development while delivering value to key stakeholders
  • 4. You will ensure alignment on the team of what they are expected to build and the timeline, setting priorities and providing constant feedback to ensure the team achieves the vision
  • 5. You will be responsible for day-to-day decisions to keep the platform build on progress, while providing general leadership support across the key workstreams.

Responsibilities:

  • 1. Maintain close relationship with the business owner and collaborate with Team Leads (e.g. Design, Development, Sales & Operations) to define the platform strategy and roadmap that supports the business vision and go-to-market strategy
  • 2. Communicate the story effectively to stakeholders and the team, being a consistent champion of the vision and value proposition in the face of challenges and change
  • 3. Prioritize the value proposition to focus the platform development on the highest value areas, anchoring to phased learning agenda and business objectives
  • 4. Ensure customer-driven design with solid understanding of users behaviors and needs, while using market and business perspective to deliver a well-positioned platform
  • 5. Shape and own the product road-map and release plan and ensure it is visible and understood by stakeholders and the agile team(s) executing on it
  • 6. Collaborate with Team Leads and legal & compliance representatives to understand constraints, interdependencies and delivery options across design, technology and sales operations to achieving the platform vision
  • 7. Lead day-to-day decision making on the platform including approving features, re-prioritization following stakeholder feedback or other drivers of change/adaptation and trade-offs across delivery methods to achieve targeted timing and outcomes
  • 8. Engage Director in strategic decision making, providing clarity of problem space, considerations and options with input from Team Leads and other stakeholders
  • 9. Create and manage the platform backlog with input from Team Leads and other stakeholders and synthesize into single prioritized list (inclusive of platform features, functionality, products and partners as applicable)
  • 10. Continuously improve the backlog ensuring clarity of user stories and updated prioritization; includes overseeing the writing of user stories and acceptance criteria
  • 11. Through significant engagement in scrum process, drive to achievement of sprint plans and release dates through significant engagement in Scrum process in partnership with Digital Innovation Process Lead (scrum master) and provide feedback to team
  • 12. Bring strong understanding of digital platform trends to assess features and functionality relative to benchmarks and drive to competitive differentiation
  • 13. As platform(s) grow and evolve, potentially build and oversee a team of product owners for specific features / functionality

Requirements:

  • 1. At least 7 years of strong experience owning and delivering digital products in agile model with outcome based approach
  • 2. Entrepreneurial mindset; thrives in complex, ambiguous, rapidly and constantly changing environment; proven versatility and adaptability
  • 3. Proven leadership skills with ability to influence a diverse group of stakeholders and manage a cross-functional team to outcomes
  • 4. Strong written and verbal communication skills including ability to communicate complex messages and trade-offs and tell a compelling story
  • 5. Understanding of and comfort conversing on business, technology, design and customer need topics
  • 6. Background consisting of both solid business understanding as well as expert understanding of high-quality digital product delivery
  • 7. Strong problem solver with ability to lead team to solution and progress
  • 8. Comfort with risk and ability to manage risk
  • 9. Flexibility to work under tight deadlines and changing priorities
  • 10. Ability to define, monitor and take actions based on platform and business KPIs
  • 11. Experience in a start-up environment or corporate innovation or agile product development group preferred
  • 12. Financial services experience preferred
