Job Title: Volunteer Coordinator

Reports To: Managing Director

Position Type: Contractor

Pay: $2,500 for the project

Project Length: July-September


As the Twin Cities Startup Week Volunteer Coordinator, you will work closely with the BETA team to recruit, organize, assign, and manage all volunteers during TCSW, September 17-24. TCSW is the second-largest startup week event in the U.S.; without a core group of well-organized and excited volunteers, TCSW cannot happen. You will take direction from the Managing Director and collaborate with the entire BETA team. Much of the work this role entails is leading the recruitment process in the months leading up the TCSW. You will also be responsible for ensuring volunteers are fully informed of their duties, present at their locations, and adequately prepared to ensure all guests have the very best of experiences.

BETA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is “helping Minnesota tech founders succeed.” To fulfill this mission, BETA runs a series of founder-first programs and Twin Cities Startup Week. Both properties have experienced dramatic growth over the past five years, and now require the next generation of team members to ensure their continued success.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Recruit volunteers to fill all positions at TCSW in person and online event sites.
  • Coordinate volunteer schedule and manage all scheduling through TCSW.
  • Organize and lead a volunteer event / info session in preparation for the week.
  • Lead training for our volunteers that will be supporting virtually on our events platform - Hopin.
  • Handle volunteer feedback, questions, and concerns before, during, and after TCSW.
  • Ensure all TCSW events are adequately staffed with volunteers and running smoothly.
  • Support BETA team in planning and preparing for TCSW and provide on hand support during all TCSW events.

  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Execute with autonomy based on clear organizational, program, projects, vision/goals.
  • Able to work flexible hours as needed, which may include occasional weekends and evenings.

Experiences: Required 

  • Experience managing individuals in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in systems management and scheduling coordination.
  • Experience interacting with multiple points of contact simultaneously.

Experiences: Nice To Have 

  • Past experience as a volunteer coordinator or working closely with a volunteer coordinator.
  • Event management experience.
  • Project management experience.
