Minnesota is home to the 10th annual OWASP AppSec USA conference this September 21 – 23 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
The Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) is a special interest user group for information security pros and hobbyists with over 70 global chapters. OWASP is widely known in the industry for their Top Ten Project and is currently creating the OWASP Mobile Security Project.
Keynoted by protocol expert Moxie Marlinspike, the internationally recognized conference is well timed with growing dialogue around the privacy and security ramifications of ‘life in the cloud’.
Marlinspike is the CTO of Whisper Systems and a fellow at the Institute for Disruptive Studies. He is the author of sslsniff, sslstrip, runs a cloud-based WPA cracking service, manages the GoogleSharing targeted anonymity service, and is the author of the sailing film Hold Fast.
Acclaimed spy author Ira Winkler and OWASP founder Mark Curphey will be joining Marlinspike as headliners amongst the standard conference proceedings — training, talks, ethical hacking competitions, and even a 5k/10k run.
“It’s great to have this conference here in Minnesota as opposed to the coasts,” says co-organizer Adam Baso. A senior security consultant with Symantec by day, Baso is the also the local OWASP chapter President.
“Whether you’re building, designing, or breaking software — these four days will be very relevant. We’re also looking for development oriented people to talk about their projects. Security in web applications is a two way street, and I know that security people can learn more about software development. For those in software development who realize they need to know about application security, this is a prime opportunity.”
OWASP AppSec USA special registration pricing is available now through July 29 and group discounts are also an option; student tickets are a steal at $75.
