Beta Byte is a new series for the early stage tech that lies somewhere between idea and traction. Tough. Awkward. Raw. Are you in this phase?
What is the name of the company and/or product?
Where is it (or will it be) found online?
What is the customer value proposition? That is, what business problem is being solved?
Cognific makes life easier for both healthcare providers and patients through a system that offers education, therapy and accountability. Cognific offers mental health activities prescribed by the doctor to the patient in a fun gaming format, while also an analytics platform for their therapist where they receive the results of the games in real-time.
When did development start?
Exactly one year ago, October 2010
Who is on the team?
Solome Tibebu with a ton of AMAZING advisors in both technology and psychological services.
What is the target “launch” date?
I am still a student (senior Entrepreneurship major at the University of St. Thomas), and so I hope to have all of my ducks in a row by the time I graduate, May 2012.
What is your greatest strength?
I am a subject matter expert on the patient side. I understand what it is like to be misunderstood, flip from therapist to therapist, and suffering from a severe anxiety disorder for years without treatment that fit my needs. I understand what it’s like to be an anxious teen in today’s technical age, receiving psychological services that are way outdated.
What is your biggest weakness?
As a full-time student, Executive Director of a non-profit called Anxiety In Teens, and staying active in the tech community, I look forward to having more TIME after graduation to fully commit to Cognific.
What is the specific technology or combination of technologies, framework, languages, etc. that makes this thing run? Is there any IP?
Still working out the kinks as far as development, but exploring the best options for both web-based and mobile versions. Yes, there are patents pending.
What is the a revenue model? How big is the market?
Private practice psychotherapists purchase subscriptions for Cognific per patient, as well as private-label licensing for larger orgs. Currently, psychotherapy is a growing industry (3.1%/year), but the Cognific system will expand to all sorts of healthcare practices for educational, therapeutic and accountability purposes.
What is one resource you could use that would take this to the next level?
A developer that I could call a partner. Please inquire at firstname.lastname@example.org
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I also run a non-profit that I started when I was 16, called Anxiety In Teens, where teens connect with other teens who are experiencing the same issues, read expert articles, and gain immediate-relief advice. I currently manage fifteen college interns at the AiT Minneapolis office for event planning, online marketing, and fresh content for our users.
