Beta Byte: Migration+

Migration Plus
Beta Byte is a series sponsored by LaunchRock for that early stage tech found somewhere between idea and traction. Equally exciting as it is raw.  Are you in this phase?

What is the name of the company and/or product?

The company is Intuvio and the product is called Migration+.

What problem is being solved?

How to easily move contacts from one smartphone platform to another.

What is the target full launch/release date?

We launched our first version on Android and iOS the week of March 9th, 2012.  However, our updates will be continuous.  We intend to release a version of Migration+ on Blackberry in Q3 2012 and a version on Windows Phone in Q3-Q4 of 2012.  Once we have a first version on all major smart phone platforms we’re going enable users to migrate more of their mobile assets from one phone to another.  After that, we’re going to look at making it easy for users to move their assets from feature phones to smart phones (or vice versa).

What is your greatest strength?

Tenaciousness.  Both Leo and Colin wholeheartedly believe in what they’re doing.  We mean to continue working on Migration+ until the fullest possible mobile migration service exists.  We both believe Migration+ will be a catalyst in the mobile market that allows users to easily move to the best operating system available.

What is your biggest weakness?

Marketing.  Both co-founders have technical backgrounds and are still learning the in’s and out’s of user adoption.

What is the specific technology or combination of technologies, framework, languages, etc. that makes this thing run? Is there any IP?

Migration+ runs on Android (Java) and iOS (Objective-C) at the moment.  It will run on Blackberry (Java) and Windows Phone (.NET).  Our back end runs on Amazon cloud servers and storage.  We’re working on patenting the systems and processes involved in our service.

Is there a revenue model?  How big is the market?

Our app is free to download and will have several free features (i.e. remove all contacts, merge contacts, etc.), however our core model is built around in-app purchases to migrate user data.  Our market in the US is ~100M smart phone users. Gartner reports over 440M world wide smart phone users.  About 17.5% of users switch platforms each year (Comscore).

What is one resource you could use that would take this to the next level?

Contacts to all the major telco help desk VPs/Directors.  We believe our app will be very suitable for them to make customer transitions between phones much easier…we just need to tell them about it!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
