“MobCon is the largest mobile conference in the upper Midwest and naturally that includes highlighting homegrown apps,” says MobDemo organizer Rory McCabe, who opened the application window this week.
MobDemo received 23 applicants last year, eight were chosen to demo and DoDrinks took home the grand prize. This year, the prizes are as follows:
- First Place: A cash prize of $5,000 plus $20,000 credit towards additional mobile development from MentorMate.
- Second Place: $15,000 credit towards additional mobile development from MentorMate.
- Third Place: $10,000 credit towards additional mobile development from MentorMate.
Both MobCon and MobDemo are a spin-out from MentorMate, although the firm will not be conducting any of the preliminary evaluations or making judgments on who wins what. Rather, five community evaluators will be selecting the eight finalists who will make their best six minute pitch: Michael Noble, Matt Pacyga, Shivani Khanna, Brad Benson, and BreAnna Fisher.
From the eight who take the stage on Nov 8th, the three winners will be judged on their technical merits, innovations, and potential profitability — as chosen live by the attending audience.
“We want to showcase the best mobile apps from Minnesota,” McCabe exclaims.
