Minneapolis transit app startup OMG Transit is hitting a number of milestones this week.
First, after months of an HTML5 MVP, OMG is officially native on Android as of Monday.
Co founder Matt Decuir says the team is “Chomping at the bit to release on iPhone, but waiting to see how things go with the Android before launching on iOS, which has a more time-consuming approval and update process.”
In addition to the Android app, OMG Transit is now expanding coverage beyond the Twin Cities to include Chicago, Portland and San Francisco — with others to follow. Decuir explains the ‘transit triangle’ strategy as the goal to encompass public transit (buses + rails), car shares (Car2go & Zipcar) and bikeshares (aka Nice Ride) around the globe. “We want to conquer the world one city at a time,” he admits.
The timing is ripe now; after six months of working with the Intel Data Services Accelerator, Decuir and team will be pitching a live audience of VC’s, reporters and civic data fans for a ‘Demo Day’ this Friday at Intel’s HQ in Santa Clara, California.
