Beta Byte is a series underwritten by Cushman & Wakefield/NorthMarq for that early stage tech found somewhere between idea and traction.
What is the name of the company and/or product? Where is it found online?
What problem does this solve and how does it create value?
What if you died today? Could your loved ones find your will? Your online asset accounts? How about accounts where you only get emailed statements? The key to the riding mower?
Estate Map was designed as a comprehensive online solution that allows its users to easily organize, securely store and selectively share their most important information. From Facebook to funeral plans, from photos to finances, from final words to the location of the riding mower keys, Estate Map helps users leave behind an estate that is easier to navigate. Using bank-level security, Estate Map lets users decide who gets access to which information and when – now, upon disability, or after the customer is gone, keeping everything secure until the time is right.
What is the full launch/release date planned?
The Estate Map is in a capped beta and will be ready for commercial launch in Q1 of 2015.

What is the specific technology or combination of technologies is used? Is there any IP?
Estate Map is built using a Zend MVC framework with PHP and My SQL backend. The front end is built with the standard front-end trifecta of HTML5, CSS, and Java Script.
We also use a proprietary, patent-pending micro-platform architecture that uniquely positions Estate Map to allow for seamless integration with strategic partners and distribution affiliates.
Estate Map uses cutting-edge bank-level highly robust security configurations favored by financial institutions and other fiscal software services. The same security protecting the most sensitive and valuable assets in the world also protects your Estate Map. Estate Map combines together SSL, multi-factor authentication, strong password enforcement, complex key relay, hashing, and salting to protect users with some of the best security technology available. The mixture of these tools helps keep your information safe.
What is the size/scope of your market and how will you scale?
Estate Map’s potential market in the United States is estimated to be 26.6 million users. While Estate Map offers a B2C solution, its growth strategy includes partnership with organizations and service providers addressing the life and death planning needs of clients. Logical prospects include estate attorneys, financial planners, hospice providers, and non-profits dealing with life-threatening disease and military families.
What is your revenue model?
Estate Map offers annual subscriptions to individuals and anticipates modified pricing arrangements with partners. Interested individuals are encouraged to register to participate in our beta although space is limited. Beta subscribers will get exclusive early access and special offers.
What is your greatest strength?
Estate Map is in its second iteration and has matured extensively in its ability to offer easy, intuitive, comprehensive solutions to address the growing challenge of digital asset management and estate planning. We benefit from a team with a strong combination of legal, estate, technical, security, and entrepreneurial expertise.
What is your biggest weakness?
Our biggest challenge will be marketing and reaching prospective customers in a newly emerging market niche about which universal awareness does not yet exist. The digital asset planning market is new but showing signs of strong growth based on increasing awareness of need.
What is one resource you could use that would take this to the next level?
As we move toward a public launch, we’re looking to add freaky awesome, experienced and like-minded team members in the areas of operations and development. We also acknowledge the extraordinary benefit potential of strong partners.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
We are eager and interested in acquiring additional beta users with a keen interest in this area. If you find the beta full, please don’t hesistate to send a note through our contact form at https://estatemap.com expressing your strong interest. We invite critical feedback even when it doesn’t feel particularly Minnesota-nice. We’d rather hear your dislikes now than leave our users unsatisfied. We genuinely look forward to the opportunity to provide a much-needed, highly-secure, cutting-edge solution to a pervasive and increasing societal need.
And thanks to tech.mn for awesomely sharing our news and the news of so many others.
