Inside The Startup Venture Loft North Loop Coworking Space

Startup Venture Loft (SVL) opened doors one month ago on 8,500 square ft. of the 5th floor McKesson Building at 251 1st Ave N Minneapolis.

First born as the “Healthcare.MN loft”, a gathering place for the blossoming Healthcare.MN, SVL evolved through demand for more room and founder Pete Kane’s desire to broaden the brand.

The new spot for startups has approximately 40 paying members (individuals, teams, groups) so far, according to Kane. Four of SVL’s anchor startup tenants include: Kidizen, RetraceHealth, Divvy and Evolve – all Minnesota tech startups with traction.

“Our only focus is startups,” he  says. “We’re looking for members that are investable with have high growth potential – those are our two requirements,” he explains, acknowledging that many are currently solorepenuers with such aspirations.

The scrappy space features 40 desks, 13 breakout offices and 2 larger conference rooms. Monthly pricing currently runs $200 for a single floating space desk, $325 for a fixed individual desk, and $1,000 for a small team startup (3-5); special event rentals can accommodate 150-200 people.

“My only concern is thinking about what to do once we outgrow this place,” Kane says.

Great to hear about you, and just blocks from my residence! I’m the founder, Lynn Wehrman, and our company is a small start up working in a space nearby called Joule. It was a hard-found location as more than 90% of our staff live with some type of disability, something other collaborative spaced shied away from with us. Joule has been extremely welcoming of our diverse staff. Is accessibility something SVL is addressing, now, or plans to in the future? Thanks and welcome to the neighborhood.
