2014 Minnesota Tech Funding Review: 119 Ventures Raised $173m

The data includes on the record activity compiled from original reporting and additional sources. It goes way beyond what you’d find in legacy media — which ignores most of the tech startup funding activity in Minnesota for some reason?

As a proxy of current local funding activity and trends, a worse case scenario as there are always undisclosed transactions not factored.


The largest deal of 2014 was a $15m D round for Sport Ngin; the smallest was a $6k crowdfunding win. In between that are 117 unique deals archived and added below.  Here’s a breakdown of the year by quarter:

Q4 2014: 10 ventures; $34m

Q3 2014: 21 ventures; $45m

Q2 2014: 48 ventures; $44m

Q1 2014: 40 ventures; $50m

Relative to the previous record funding year for Minnesota tech, 2014 was basically even. We counted one more unique company and ($9m) variance. Here’s a look back at 4 years prior for reference and research:
