Screen Shot 2015-04-21 at 9.26.08 AMAt least 28 different Minnesota tech ventures received ~$49m of investment capital during the first quarter of the year according to information collected and analyzed from January 1 through March 31, 2015.

This dataset represents the most comprehensive ongoing tally of Minnesota’s tech sector funding quarter to quarter, year over year.

It’s compiled from multiple sources as proxy of market activity, including: crowdfunding, incubators, angel investing, venture capital, corporate arm and private equity.

Consider it a worse case scenario as there are always undisclosed transactions not fully factored.  For example, Delaget & Outsell were counted as transactions, but no money was added to the aggregate considering the actual dollar amounts were not released.

During the same period last year (Q4 2015), 40 ventures (-30% Q1 2015) raised a cumulative $50m (-.5% Q1 2015); versus the last quarter (Q4 2014), 10 ventures (+180% Q1 2015) raised $34m (+45% Q1 2015) .  The largest deals of this quarter go to Vidku @$17m, Insite Software @$15m and Zipnosis @$3.1m.
