Minnesota Drone Distributor Leading Edge Technologies Is Raising $1.2m For Precision Ag

leading-edge-technologiesWinnebago, Minnesota-based Leading Edge Technologies is raising $1.2m in a convertible note, with $300k committed according to SEC disclosure.

Leaving no stone unmapped, drones are taking crops by storm with their ability to provide small farmers with affordable precision ag capabilities.

Farmer Todd Golly says he saw the potential of UAVs as an agronomic mapping tool to spot nitrogen, fertilizer, and moisture issues after being pitched by Farm Intelligence out of Mankato.

Clearly the DIY type — he bought the very autonomous senseFly eBee, partnered with another farm, hired GIS expert Erik Johnson and launched the company late last year to distribute the machines and teach farmers how to setup and execute their own systems.

“This is one of those technologies, like autosteer, that everybody is going to do eventually,” he predicts, adding “The fact that they are drone aircraft is the fun thing…but the diagnostics they provide to a farmer is the big thing.”

Looking into the filing, it appears that the funding is spearheaded by Chicago entrepreneur Orlando Saez, listed as a director and president.
