Local Student – Alumni Connector Homi Closes $100k ‘Pre-Seed’ Round

Minneapolis startup Homi has closed on $100k pre-seed funding as of late, according to cofounder & CEO Philip Xiao.

Five different angels participated in the round, including: Cathy James, Brad Nordholm, Rishi Vij, and Tim Drane.

Homi began last summer in response to Xiao’s own challenges around breaking into the insurance industry post graduation.

Their resulting platform facilitates stronger relationships between students and alumni from a given college, acting as a matching service for the like-minded who share that institutional commonality.

After launching first on Carleton Campus last summer, Xiao says Homi has since expanded to serve St. Olaf, Macalester, University of Minnesota – Carlson School of Management, and Cal State Fullerton.

The venture has also found its first path to revenues with a focus offering HR departments with an improved hiring channel.  Corporate recruiters can post jobs for free and Homi charges them a flat fee per applicant.

With the new capital in hand, Xiao and his team of four seek to scale across Minnesota in preparation for a broader expansion and larger round of investment.
