[UPDATED] HealthIT Startup Ambient Clinical Analytics Closes 5.4m Series A

Ambient_FullColorRochester-headquartered Ambient Clinical Analytics has closed on $3.9m of $5.4m series A funding round according to this recent SEC disclosure.

Updated 4/12/15 – CEO Al Berning has confirmed full closure of the round at $5.4m

Updated 4/27/15 – Investors include: Waterline Ventures and Bluestem Capital, with participation from Social Capital.

Created in partnership with the Mayo Clinic, Ambient Clinical Analytics launched its initial big data platform AWARE for hospital ERs & ICUs in early 2014.

Al Berning leads with backing of $2.9 million in seed funding from Social Capital, Mayo Clinic, Rock Health, Rochester Area Economic Development Inc., Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation, Gopher Angels and angel investors.  The seed funding was converted to Series A preferred stock at the closing.

That said, it would appear about 50% of the $3.9m is coming via debt to equity conversion, leaving much TBD.

This time last year, the venture inked a deal with Dutch firm Royal Philips to roll out patient-centric product AWARE internationally. .
