Beta.MN/ Byte is a series underwritten by Bust Out Solutions and published in collaboration with Beta.MN for the early-stage founders between idea and execution.
What is the name of the company and where is it found online?
What distinct problem does this solve for who and how does this create value for them?
The Problem: Nearly all software teams are now using agile development techniques, but the majority of agile projects are still challenged or failed due to improper application of agile principles. Agile training and coaching are expensive and can be ineffective. Poor agile implementations are even more expensive, costing millions in failed projects and lost revenue.
Our Solution: We have developed an AI-based Scrum coaching and training software that integrates seamlessly with existing agile tools. We use short consulting engagements coupled with our software to dramatically lower the cost and improve the effectiveness of Scrum implementations.
How did you come up with the idea or what was your motivation for starting?
We have worked on several software development team turnarounds. In every case, there was a challenged or failed Scrum implementation that was preventing the teams from being successful. The teams, while talented, did not have the blocking and tackling skills necessary to execute Scrum projects correctly. Agile coaching can be inconsistent, and doesn’t scale well. Our software is designed to help managers, agile coaches and teams do Scrum correctly at scale and at a dramatically lower cost than the current coaching model.
What is the full launch/release date planned?
Currently in beta and accepting more beta customers!
Who is on the team?
What is the specific technology or combination of technologies is used?
We’ve built a proprietary AI that analyzes product backlogs, derives facts, and makes recommendations linked to expertly authored content to help the team to improve. Further, we’ve built an alerting engine that will inform the team immediately when agile badness is detected. In addition to our own unique, patent-pending IP, we’re using: Angular 4/Typescript, PrimeNG, Java, Apache Tomcat, Apache openNLP, Postgres, Linux hosted on Amazon AWS. Future revisions will likely include DeepLearning4J.
Who is the customer and what is your revenue model?
Our customers are software teams, managers and agile coaches that are currently using Scrum or would like to use Scrum. Our revenue model is a combination of consulting services and SaaS fees. Additionally, professional service firms that provide agile consulting can use our software to differentiate themselves and we’ve received quite a bit of interest from those companies.
What is the size/scope of your market and how will you scale?
We estimate that there are approximately 1.75 million software teams worldwide using agile in some way. Our software enables us to penetrate this target market at scale and retain customers long-term. The traditional consulting market loses track of customers after each engagement and engagements are performed team-by-team with a lot of variation in coaching. Channel partners might also be a key ingredient in scaling up.
What is your greatest strength?
Deep agile and software engineering expertise, experience in technology turnarounds, C level experience, understanding the needs of C-level executives and board members, deep roots in the agile community locally, early and supportive lighthouse customers.
What is your biggest weakness?
The opportunity is very large with many potential exciting directions to choose from, which can make focusing on a single direction challenging. And, we can always use more beta customers to strengthen our AI.
What is one resource you could use that would take this to the next level?
An experienced advisory board.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
