MNvest has tweeted out an interesting graphic that tracks sector progress for investment crowdfunding in the state of Minnesota. For those not in the know, MNVest is the advocacy group, as  well as the name of the law, that helped to make Minnesota’s state crowdfunding exemption a reality. Without MNVest (the group that is) it is arguable little would have been accomplished.”

We’d LOVE to see more tech companies take advantage of this law. It’s a natural fit for startups that are post-friends and family round but pre-Series A. It’s an excellent way to socialize a new app/service/product from a marketing standpoint, and it keeps the leverage in founders’ hands, as the companies themselves set the deal terms. In the near future this could also help solve the private company liquidity problem. So give us a try tech world, eh?

        Why?

“…it keeps the leverage in founders’ hands, as the companies themselves set the deal terms.”

Hmmm….companies can set their ask/offer terms for the market, but those terms, whether accepted or not, to what degree, is actually what sets the deal terms..,right?

I’m not sure what the $300K represents in terms of total raise, but I can tell you that SPPX might account for over 1/3 of that given our current $112,600 raised-to-date…

MNvest is clearly NOT just for breweries!!

We have already taken all the friction out of escrow management, and we’re starting on “Risk Factors” next to automate things to the point where we could become the “Legal Zoom” of crowdfunding.

We’re going to combine the SBA.GOV B-PLAN website with iDisclose to drive the PPM cost down about $5K.

Our next big thing is streamlining a “self-directed IRA” path for investors to tap into their stagnant IRA and 401K’s tax-free to invest in their friends ventures!
