What is the name of the company and/or product?
What distinct problem does this solve for who and how does this create value for them?
The ControlBright platform consists of a cloud-enabled LED drive (called a Light Engine) as well as a centralized management portal. Our hardware is compatible with nearly any 12v/24v LED fixture. The platform allows brightness, hues, colors, scenes, and scheduling to be controlled through a cloud-managed web interface. Our target market is any multi-location commercial customer, specifically restaurants, bars, hospitality, and retail. For example, by combining an RGBW strip with one of our engines, a 150 location retail store can now control one, some, or all of their lighting instantly through our portal. They can schedule colors or scenes to coincide with new promotions, highlight fixtures based on a holiday or event, and most importantly, maintain brand consistency across their locations.
How did you come up with the idea / what was your motivation for starting?
While designing a large 24v LED lighting system, Chad found that a remote management platform specifically geared towards RGB, RGBW, and single color LED’s did not exist. Thus, ControlBright was born.
What is the full launch/release date planned?
July 5th, 2017
Who is on the team?
Chad Behling – CEO
Tim Nelson – CTO
What is the specific technology or combination of technologies is used?
The Controlbright Light Engine is an embedded system with hardware interfaces for 12v/24v LED fixtures and network connectivity (Ethernet and WiFi). The service platform is comprised of an API for interaction with the Light Engines, as well as an end-user web portal, written in AngularJS and Bootstrap.
Who is the customer and what is your revenue model?
Our target customer is any multi-location commercial entity including but not limited to bars/restaurants, retail, and hospitality. Our goal is to drive recurring monthly revenue through a subscription service to the ControlBright portal.
What is the size/scope of your market and how will you scale?
There are millions of potential multi-location commercial customers throughout the world that could leverage our platform. The portal is completely API-driven, meaning it will scale effortlessly to tens of thousands of customers and devices. Our factory can produce thousands of devices per month, should demand require it.
What is your greatest strength?
Building upon a successful previous startup, we have extensive experience in building customized hardware overseas (PCB manufacturing, certification, packaging, etc). Additionally, we are well versed in embedded platforms and API-driven cloud infrastructure.
What is your biggest weakness?
Sales and marketing is our biggest weakness. Our strategy is to build out a distribution channel to help offload those activities from our focus.
What is one resource you could use that would take this to the next level?
Solid distribution channel(s)
Is there anything else you would like to add?
We currently have over a dozen distributors eager to test the platform as soon as we launch.
