2DCon Celebrates Games & Geekdom In Minnesota

Live video game music, tournaments, arcade games, and an indoor parkour track — the third annual 2DCon organized by This Is Geek once again offered something for the geek in all of us.

Held on Aug 11-13 at the Doubletree by Hilton in Bloomington, retro gamers got to play their old favorites in the Arcade while local developers showed off works in progress at Indie Island. Challengers faced off in over 20 tournaments including Mario Kart 8, Pokemon, Magic: the Gathering, and Overwatch. Local and regional vendors sold custom arcade controllers, knitted Mario Bros. mushroom hats, bespoke art, and pixel quilts like Megaman (pictured above).

Musical performances included the Twin Cities Brass Band, Bards of the Goddesses, and Super Marcato Bros., each offering their own twist on the growing video catalogue of video game music from past and present.

2DCon will return next year, August 3-5 , once again held at the Doubletree by Hilton in Bloomington. The theme will be “Critical Hit!”
