The Big Know Raises $536k For ‘Branded Education’

The Big Know has raised $536k in convertible debt this month according to SEC disclosure.

The venture is a spin-out from GoKart Labs, formed in 2014 to combine educational aspirations with integrated marketing in video medium.

Names of individuals involved with the funding deal include: GoKart’s driver Don Smithmier, Mark Addicks, John Bergstrom, Bobbie Dressen, Allison Gage. Some brands pictured on the company’s website, presumably customers, are AARP, UnitedHealth Group, Optum, P&G, and Andrew Zimmerman.

The Big Know previously closed on a $3m dollar funding round in January 2016, including investments from LFE Capital and Steve Shank — founder of online educator Capella Education Company (1991), which just yesterday announced a $2b merger/acquisition with Strayer University.

Smithmier declined to comment on any specifics of this funding round while Linkedin says the company is now up to 16 employees.
