Minnesota SportsTech Venture Starting 11 Raises $225k Seed Round

Minnesota SportsTech venture Starting 11 has raised a $225k seed round according to cofounder and CEO Teague Orgeman.

Starting 11 launched their first fantasy app in August as a means of engaging soccer fans more deeply with the sport and with each other by establishing both daily and multi-week contests tailored to soccer sensibilities.

The company won this year’s Minnesota Cup High Tech division, and is a Beta.MN alumni, and will be presenting at SportCon come January.

Orgeman says to date they have tracked 3,500 contests with users from 20+ countries averaging 25 engagements per user per week. They are pre-revenue today with intentions of flipping their paid games switch on “any day”.

Named angel investors include locals Daren Cotter, Steven Snyder, Steven London; Orgeman says the proceeds will be used for product development, marketing, and regulatory affairs — as they approach a larger series A round in 2018.

“We are right where we wanted to be when we launched and it feels great to have some smart investors on our side.”
