Beta.MN / Byte: Konverge

Beta.MN/ Byte is a series underwritten by Bust Out Solutions and published in collaboration with Beta.MN for the early-stage founders between idea and execution.

What is the name of the company and/or product?

The name of the mobile app is

What distinct problem does this solve for who and how does this create value for them?

Konverge solves the common question of: Where is everyone? Think happy hour. What’s the first thing you do when you arrive at the busy restaurant? You text or call your friends to see where they’re at. We wanted to fix this.

While there are location sharing apps out there like Life360, these apps are intended for you to share your location with specified groups of people for indefinite amounts of time. With Konverge, you aren’t constantly sharing your location with the group. Our location tracking feature only revolves around specific user accepted events and only for the short time period when you’re on your way to the location. The app doesn’t track you when you don’t want it to. The user has full control over what events and when they decided to share their locations. Your location then is only shared with those in your private event.

How did you come up with the idea / what was your motivation for starting?

This specific idea came when I had plans to meet up with my business partner. While waiting, I did what I would always do – send them a text and ask them how far away they were. After getting a response, the idea instantly struck me. Why not combine every aspect of meeting up (the invitation, communication leading up to and ETA/arrival status) into one single app? It only made sense.

The problem we’re solving is to help users be more conscientious of other people’s time. If you’re running late, the guests of the event look on Konverge to see your ETA and can adjust their plans accordingly. They’re not sitting around wondering if you’re ever going to show up.

What is your big picture plan and vision for the future?

We have a roadmap of features and strategic partnerships that would ultimately turn Konverge into a complete meet up experience. Ultimately, we envision Konverge becoming a standard when it comes to coordinating invites, making plans and meeting up with everyone.

What is the full launch/release date planned?

Our official launch date is today. We will be adding new features and updates on a regular schedule.

Who is on the team?

Daniel Simmer & Max Pham

What is the specific technology or combination of technologies is used?

We utilize technologies and platforms including MS Azure and Google’s APIs.

Who is the customer and what is your revenue model?

Our customers are the millions of people meeting up each day, whether it’s for lunch, happy hour, a birthday dinner, business meeting, golf outing, sporting events, etc.

Regarding revenue, we have plans to generate revenue in future stages of our growth via strategic partnerships with businesses that appear on our search results for potential destination spots for each event.

What is the size/scope of your market and how will you scale?

Our initial user group is focused on the smaller, private meetings with future plans to broaden the scope to accommodate both smaller and larger scale events. In terms of scaling:

Technology – our app leverages technologies and platforms that are readily scalable We can scale up and out using the best cloud services available.

Team – we have plans to onboard several internal developers to help us continue to develop and grow the application. Additionally, we have plans to build a sales & marketing team to further develop our market and strategic partnerships.

What is your greatest strength?

Our greatest strength is listening. Taking critical feedback, listening to our users to continually evolve and better our product.

What is your biggest weakness?

Our biggest weakness during the process was the urge to add every feature into this app from the start. We had to take a step back and focus on the core features of Konverge first to ease the adoption period for new users.

Money aside, what is one resource you could use that would take this to the next level?

A larger development team. We have a roadmap of additional features that we want to implement into our app in the coming phases, and having more development power would help expedite the process for us.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

One important aspect to Konverge is the safety feature. When you’re driving to an event and your friend text messages you and asks you where you’re at, you don’t (and shouldn’t) have to text while driving since all of the guests can see on the map where your location and your ETA. Don’t text and drive.
