What one word best describes how you work?

Efficient.

What is your current device/hardware/office setup?

Surface book, Android, open door policy

What apps/software/tools can’t you live without?

The only app I can’t live without and actually like is Excel; The other app/tool I can’t live without but wish didn’t exist – Email

What your sleep schedule like in terms of hours/wake-up and what’s the morning routine?

A solid 6 hours is good for me, but probably ranges from 4-7 per night. As far as the morning goes: If a kid is in bed when we wake up – watch 30 minutes of cartoons, feed dog, shower, shave, dress and leave in less than 30 minutes. If no kid is in bed- all of the above minus the cartoons.

Is there a method to how you schedule your days?

60% are scheduled for me – For those that add events to my calendar, you know who you are. 40% is on the fly. 20% is traveling

How much time do you spend in vs. out of the office?

60/40 in vs. out

Where is the office?

NE Minneapolis in the Broadway Ridge building.

What’s your best time-saving shortcut/life hack?

Drive fast, eat fast, sleep fast. Don’t be slow.

What is that one thing you have to do, no matter what, every day?

There is probably a funny biological answer to this, but I’ll go with telling my wife and kids I love them.

What is your preferred form of communication and why?

In person. Its next to impossible to read people via email or over the phone. If you want to make something big happen, it has to be done in person

On average, how many hours a day do you spend in meetings?

Formal – too many. Informal – the rest of my day

When, where and what do you typically eat for lunch?

Duh – Foodsby. Specifically, salads, wraps and the occasional dessert pizza from one of our first restaurant partners (Roger!)

How many hour a week do you work on average and do you work in the evenings and/or weekends?

My view – 60-65.
My wife’s view – 80+

I try to keep weekends off limits, but have found a lot of value in getting caught up on emails Saturday mornings.

What is the best advice you ever received, accepted, and applied?

Satisfied but NEVER content.

Fill in the blank: I’d love to see _Phil Soran_ from Minnesota’s tech industry answer these same questions.
