Hitch Health was born at Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) in 2017, specifically under their Upstream Health Innovations arm. Their aim is to coordinate patient transportation using SMS for rideshare services in lieu of an ambulance when an appointment is scheduled:
“Hitch Health is the only non-emergency healthcare transportation company with proprietary technology that securely connects healthcare providers’ electronic health records to identify patients who may benefit from a free, convenient ride to and from a clinic, hospital or doctor’s office. The software’s flexibility allows health systems to customize ride offers through filters. Based on those filters, ride offers are generated through an SMS text and matched with the appointment. This high-tech solution means there is no need for the patient or clinic staff to schedule the rides. The return trip ride is just as easy. When the patient is ready to go home, they just text “ready.”
Earlier this year, in February, Hitch partnered with Lyft on a nationwide campaign and the company is also a semifinalist in this years Minnesota Cup in the Life Science/HealthIT division.
