Polar Vortex Forces Cancellation of Dozens of Minnesota Tech Events

Minnesota is caught in the cross-hairs of an arctic air mass that is spreading across much of the north central and northeastern U.S. this week.

This ‘Polar Vortex’ is pushing the limits of human safety and survival as local temperatures are dropping dangerously low right now, as much as 20-30f degrees under with -40 to -50 windchill factors.

A much anticipated startup showcase from Healthcare.MN was the latest postponement announced minutes ago. Likewise, many smaller, more niche meetup groups have been consistently cancelling their regular monthlies already as more are expected throughout the remainder of this week.

In what appears to be a Minnesota first, some online events are also canceling their virtual meetups due to unexpected weather; it’s so cold in Minnesota the intertubes are freezing. Pictured below is a notification from the EvolveSec – Twin Cities Cybersecurity Meetup sent yesterday evening regarding a webinar that was scheduled for tomorrow:

We advise our local readers to – first of all – be smart and safe if venturing outside for any reason this week and to confirm all events posted on the community calendar; it’s impossible to keep up with the changes and more than likely the event you have in mind is or will soon be cancelled.
