Angie Swatfager was chosen to be Go Kart Labs first official CFO last fall. We caught up with her to hear more…

When and how did you get started in your finance career, specifically within the tech industry?

I started in 1997 as an auditor at Ernst & Young, where I had the opportunity to work with clients large and small across a wide range of industries. During this time, I gradually realized that emerging technology companies were where I wanted to be. They tend to have tight-knit, open minded teams and challenging problems to solve.

The CFO: Peter Goepfrich, Ascentis.

When and how did you get started in your finance career?

I was fortunate enough to get a job at a small consulting firm named Management Resources Initiatives when I was an aimless college graduate. After a short period there, the owner convinced me that public accounting would put me on a significantly more accelerated path than working for him.

So he introduced me to a partner at Price Waterhouse (now PwC), and a few months later I joined the public accounting ranks.

I was immediately drawn to the technology industry and spent the next seven years providing services to a variety of publicly-traded and venture-backed companies before deciding to venture out on the client side of the technology industry.

The CFO: Jamison Rice, ABILITY Network

When and how did you get started in your finance career?

I started in finance in public accounting at Arthur Anderson in the early 1990s. It was a great way to get exposure to a lot of different industries and companies. I was able jump into my career, learning from really talented people within public accounting, as well strong leaders at a number of different client companies. I continue to grow in my profession by surrounding myself with talented people. It’s one of the reasons I joined ABILITY Network.

What is unique about your role with the technology industry, compared to other industries?

The speed of change within technology is greater than most industries. That dynamic increases exponentially when you couple it with the rate of change within the healthcare industry. My role, and that of my team, is focused on enabling business leaders to make informed decisions about our business−quickly. As part of a leading healthcare information technology company, we simply can’t afford a “wait-and- see” approach.

When and how did you get started in your finance career, specifically within the tech industry?

I was fortunate to land a finance role right out of college in 2006 with HighJump Software, which was a local software company at the time. It was a great opportunity and provided me with a lot of career growth and enthusiasm of the tech industry over the 8 years I was there.
