The CTO: Derek Rucker, Carrot Health

How long have you been working in technology for and what is your technical background?

I’ve been in technology all my life. My 8th grade science fair project was a rudimentary database and front-end I created on my Apple IIe. My undergrad is in engineering from MIT, and my PhD and MBA are from the University of Michigan. I learned HTML in grad school, made a bunch of websites for friends and family, but chose to continue my studies rather than becoming part of the dotcom boom. Still not sure if that was a good move or a bad one.

The CTO: Tom Healy, InboxDollars

How long have you been working technology for and what is your technical background?

I’ve been working in product development for the past 25 years with a focus on front end user experience and backend database performance and scalability.

After college I had the option of playing it safe and working at a fortune 100 company but instead rolled the dice with a startup company founded by a few IBM execs that eventually went public. Building upon that positive startup experience, I co-founded a SaaS analytical applications company and eventually landed at InboxDollars where I’ve been since 2008.

Wade Anderson is the CTO of Fision — the makers of digital asset management & sales enablement software.

How long have you been working in technology for and what is your background?

Officially I’ve been working in technology for just over 23 years. I started my IT career at the State of Minnesota (DHS) writing and testing software for mainframes, but I first became aware of technology in the late 70s and early 80s with the Atari and Commodore.

My infatuation has only grown since then. Over the years, I’ve also worked for companies like Accenture, Best Buy, Lifetouch, and TrustedChoice.com, alongside a plethora of consulting gigs.

Brent Kastner is a startup CTO currently with URTURN & Tarmac.

How long have you been working in technology for and what is your technical background?

I’ve been serious about technology since middle school where I ran a BBS with some friends. I worked hard to earn enough money in my early highschool years to buy a 486 that could run DOOM.

Those early years helped me understand the hardware side and I eventually got my professional start working with hardware (servers and networks) in 1996. I transitioned into software development in 2000 as I was working at BestBuy on their first ecommerce website.

How long have you been working in technology for and what is your technical background?

I started working in engineering and technology when I was finishing my graduate and Ph.D. work at Cornell University in the mid-1990s. At that point, nanomaterials and semiconductors were strong interests of mine. Over the course of my career, I have touched several different STEM fields, including testing equipment, automation and most recently software.
