BETA Startup: Thaddeus Medical LogoThe TECHdotMN team would like to introduce you to each of the startups featured in the upcoming BETA showcase. The next company in our BETA Startup Showcase series is: Thaddeus Medical

Protecting temperature sensitive medical products in transit through smart, reusable packaging.

Tell us the story of how and why you started your company.
I learned about the serious harm to patients that can occur through the improperly controlling and tracking temperature of clinical specimens while I was a Research Associate at Mayo Clinic. As Mayo has outstanding protocols to protect patients, they reject / refuse to test specimens if they are not received at the appropriate temperature. As medical errors are the 3rd biggest killer in the US, it is not unreasonable to think that this is sometimes overlooked at other hospitals especially outside the United States. If there was a better way to control and track temperature for individual clinical specimens, there would be a lot less risk to harming the patient. The same is true for therapeutics, with all the biological therapies that are being sent to patients homes, a solution is needed to protect the therapeutics and provide a better experience to the patient.

What’s your most recent success or milestone hit?

Featuring Jen Swanson, VP of Digital Product, Optum.

What does Product Management Leadership mean to you?

Whenever people ask what I do, I explain that my team and I figure out which features and capabilities to make it easier and more pleasant for users to do what needs to be done on our consumer-facing websites, and then we work with technical people, like developers and designers, to bring it to life.

For me, product management is this nexus of problem solving and creation that I find very satisfying. My main thrill in life is to bring order to the chaos and I think product management does just that.
