Minnesota Entrepreneurial Events Spotlight — April 15, 2022

My girlfriend and I are big fans of The Great British Baking Show. Every single time we watch an episode, we get totally pumped to bake our asses off (and the show just has a lovely positivity to it that, while a bit opposite to my natural disposition, is welcome in today's world).

So, it was with great zeal we gathered ingredients and hit the kitchen this past Sunday with one goal in mind — eclairs. We whipped up some choux, popped it in the oven, and... it didn't quite turn out how we imagined. Tiny, dense, and baked to a cracker-like texture, they were decidedly not able to become full-fledged eclairs. A failure.

But! We rallied. We took a breather, whipped up another batch of choux, and hit the oven once more. Our tenacity was rewarded and, after a bit of diplomat cream and some mouthwatering dips in chocolate, our eclairs were complete. Prue and Paul would've been proud.

Now, baking a dozen eclairs is not the same as starting a business (unless, you know, baking eclairs is your business), but the journey of failure to rebound to success is a familiar one to many entrepreneurs. And I'm happy that BETA is hosting an event that promotes an honest reflection of failure and the lessons learned from it — Fuckup Nights Twin Cities

The first FUN Twin Cities event is coming up soon (April 28!) and features a trio of Minnesota entrepreneurs sure to inspire: Sean Higgins (BetterYou), Elyse Ash (Cloudburst SBC), and Tyrre Burks (Players Health). Don't miss it — get your ticket today.

Now, take a look at some startup and entrepreneurial events to check out this week.

1 Million Cups

Wednesday, April 20 — 1 Million Cups

Each Wednesday morning, entrepreneurs around the country gather to share a (virtual) cup of coffee and present their latest ideas! Join us at Impact Hub for the MSP Chapter of 1MC. Two entrepreneurs will share their venture to gather ideas, feedback and support from the community.

BSU Marketing Trade Show

Wednesday, April 20 — LaunchPad Bemidji

At the beginning of the semester, marketing students at Bemidji State were put into groups and are tasked with coming up with a new product idea. As they move through the semester they apply various marketing concepts to their product ideas. Some of the concepts reviewed are product, price, place, promotion, and target market. At the end of the semester the students set up booths and create a mock trade show event that is in partnership with LaunchPad. At the Mayflower Building, students will pitch their ideas to the entrepreneurs and are provided feedback.
