This nonprofit wants to connect Twin Cities students with Silicon Valley

Silicon North Stars is a new initiative focused on giving a select group of Minnesota students the chance to spend a week in Silicon Valley, learning about technology and startups directly from the source.

The pilot program, which runs week of July 13-19, will offer 16 eighth graders from Minneapolis and St. Paul an opportunity to tour companies like Facebook, Indiegogo, TaskRabbit, and of course — Google.   They will participate in a startup bootcamp, demo day and receive ongoing mentorship after the fact.

B2B startup Docalytics is going to Google for Demo Day

DocalyticsCoCo is sending local startup Docalytics to Silicon Valley this April 1st and 2nd to participate in a Google-hosted Demo Day.

Co-founders Evan Carothers and Steve Peck delivered an eight minute pitch earlier this evening to an intimate crowd of CoCo members and judges.   The event coincides with CoCo + Google’s partnership, as part of the Google for Entrepreneurs Tech Hub Network.

Coco’s new work space in Uptown gets an established software firm

Coco, the co-working space for tech start-ups, consultants and entrepreneurs in the Twin Cities, will get its first established software company when its new Lake Street location opens later this month.

Coco, which stands for Coworking & Collaborative Space, already has locations in downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul that rent space to technical people whose businesses are tiny or just getting started.

But Coco’s first mainstream client, Navitor Inc. of North Mankato, Minn., said Friday it will locate a dozen software developers in the new 15,000 sq. ft. Coco facility at 1010 W.”

“MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota (June 25, 2013) – CoCo coworking and collaborative space has announced that it will open a new location this September in the booming Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis. This will be the 3rd location for the three-year-old CoCo, which has sites in Lowertown St. Paul and in Minneapolis at the historic Minneapolis Grain Exchange.

CoCo Uptown will be located at 1010 W. Lake Street, between Hennepin and Lyndale Avenues, and at the junction of Lake Street, Lagoon Street and the Greenway bike path. “This is an ideal location for many reasons. We’re close to public transportation and within 4 blocks of dozens of restaurants, pubs and coffee shops,” said CoCo founding partner Kyle Coolbroth.”

Google for Entepreneurs crew headed to CoCo for STEP-UP intern training

“Trainers from Google headquarters in Mountain View, California will hold a one-­‐ day “entrepreneurs in training” class for 80 STEP-­‐UP Achieve interns who will be employed this summer through the City of Minneapolis STEP-­‐UP program.  A team of Google staff will help to prepare these high school interns for their summer employment at top businesses in Minneapolis.

Google for Entrepreneurs and CoCo Minneapolis will partner to create a program designed to equip interns with the knowledge and tools necessary to help them effectively think through problems, and create a business plan from scratch to solve real world challenges.”
